The New Nissan Note goes in to production
The new Nissan Note arrived at the Geneva Motor Show in March, and has turned in to a proper compact hatch – with plenty of kerbside appeal – instead of the rather bland small MPV it used to be. With better looks, some nice styling detail and lots of technology on offer – like Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Departure Warning and Moving Object Detection, the new Note looks set to have much more impact when it arrive’s in Nissan’s showrooms than the old Note ever did. That point of view is given extra credence by the 14,000 orders Nissan has received for the new Note in Europe since it went on sale in July, and now the first Notes are ready to start rolling off the production line at Nissan’s plant in Sunderland.
UK car manufacturing hits six-year high in 2013
The car market in Europe may have been a painful place in 2013, but that hasn’t stopped UK car manufacturing continuing to grow, with 2013 delivering a total of 1,509,762 cars – the highest total since 2007 and up 3.1 per cent on 2012. That impressive total is made up from a wide variety of car manufacturers, from the volume producers like Jaguar Land Rover, Nissan, Toyota and MINI to smaller sales volume from supercar makers Aston Martin. In fact the rate of growth and investment is so strong – moire than £2.5 billion in investment announcements in 2013 – that the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) are reporting that analysts believe the UK’s car manufacturing could break all-time records in the next four years.
The new De Tomaso has a name - De Tomaso Deauville
So the De Tomaso formerly known as the De Tomaso SLC, and then dubbed the De Tomaso SLS by its octegenarion saviour now has a proper De Tomaso-style name – the De Tomaso Deauville. Which is all fine and dandy – and sounds a lot better than naming the new Tomato* after past and present Mercedes – but seems an odd name to give a cumbersome crossover come SUV come BMW GT wanabee. Why odd, you ask?
